Coconut export to double in 2-3 yrs: CDB |
Exports of coconut and its allied products, sans coir, is likely to more than double to touch Rs 1,000 crore in two to three years, Coconut Development Board (CDB) said today.
"Exports of coconut and its allied products, minus coir, stood at Rs 432 crore last fiscal. It should touch the Rs 1,000 crore-mark in the next two to three years," CDB Chairman C V Ananda Bose said here.
India exports different coconut products to more than 80 countries worldwide, he said, adding that this fiscal, exports should touch Rs 600 crore in the current fiscal.
There is a separate board for coir, in which also India is a major exporter.
India is one of the major coconut producing countries in the world with a share of 15.65 per cent in area and 24.14 per cent in production.
Coconut production in India is contributed mainly by small and marginal farmers, who form a sizeable chunk of the producing community.
Kerala shares 43 per cent of area and 38 per cent of production, which is the largest contribution among the producing states. India fetches export earnings of more than Rs 1,000 crore from export of various coconut products.
