Sarbananda Sonowal gets charge of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways

NEW DELHI: Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, among the Narendra Modi government’s first two Minsters from the Northeast, is back in the Union Ministry as the in-charge of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the Ministry of Ayush after a five-year stint in Assam.
“After I express my gratitude to Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji for entrusting me as the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways & Minister of AYUSH. Under your guidance,
I will dedicate my services to the Nation,“ he tweeted after getting this new responsibility by Modi Government.
Sarbananda Sonowal began his political career in the All Assam Students Union, and was its president between 1992 and 1999. Mr. Sonowal joined the Asom Gana Parishad, the political avatar of the AASU, in 2001 and was elected MLA in the same year.
He entered the Lok Sabha for the first time in 2004 after defeating former Union Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar in Dibrugarh. After having differences with the AGP leadership he joined the BJP in 2011. He recently concluded the successful sting as CM of Assam State for five years before getting this new responsibility by PM Modi.
